Beginner needs support in modelling part made from plywood

Der community,

I’m absolutely new to KeyShot and need to model a part that is milled from laminated plywood. I found out that I can use a photo as texture. From my perspective this is working very well. However, my part has a radius and a phase on which the orientation of the wood layers is twisted. Is there anybody who can explain me (as somebody with nearly no experiences in KeyShot) how I can come across this problem?

Thank you so much for your support!

You need to UV map your model, to tell KS proper directions to assign textures on each face. You can make it in the KS, in app where you model your part (if it have such functionality) or other app.
Suggest to take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oh4ibAlp9Q4

From the question I’m not sure if the layers are also actually bent or if the shape is not directly milled perpendicular to the plywood.

Since the plywood often just is as it is, like straight layers I guess the cut/milling is under an angle. If so you could try to use ‘box’ mapping and rotate that box compared to the model so it won’t be a perpendicular cut anymore.

edit: the tri-planar as Marco stated is indeed a better/easier way since you can use multiple textures. With box you would have to combine multiple labels.

Instead of box mapping, I suggest tri-planer with the texures. Tri-planer mapping enables changing the direction of projection. And also different texture files for X,Y and Z.

It might be a combination of UV mapping for the side and 3D advanced wood (procedural) texture for the chamfers (“phase”).
